Mias Quiltbod
A shop filled with Inspiration, Fabric and Sewing Machines
Welcome to my little corner in English! I don't have everything in English, but if you have any questions or comments, please send me an e-mail!!!
Soon (I hope) I will have my patterns translated in to English and have my web shop up and running so that those of you who don't understand Swedish will be able to buy, download and print my patterns.
I will also sell my embroidery designs the same way... just have to find a place where they give away extra time first!!!
The MC11000 has
landed!!!!
Klick here or on the picture
below to see more!
It's mainly in Swedish, but the pictures are international!

In an issue Janome Digest you can see the artists behind these master pieces. They were only 9 years old when they
made them. Click on the picture to see more.
Click on the pictures below if you want
to see the patterns I have for sale. They are all in Swedish (except the one in
the pictures below), but I will
translate them as soon as I can, so just let me know which ones you find most
interesting and I'll begin with those.

In one of Janome Digests this year there's a small article about a project
I did with my oldest son and his class in May 2004. Klick on the picture below to see more photos and read about the project.

Free designs in JEF
and SEW formats
Feel welcome to take a look around, and drop me a line if there's anything you'd like to ask or comment.
Throughout the years I have made some patterns,
that are only available in Swedish. However, if there's an interest I might
consider translating them. Drop me a line and let me know...
Some of them have been translated and published in Janome Digest already.
Also the Embellisher page is more or less in English
A couple of years ago we had the pleasure of having Bonnie
McCaffery here for a weekend class

Bonnie and the quilt that is on the cover of her book Fantasy
Fabrics (more pictures if you click on the picture
above)

A few years ago we had an Exhibition here in
Surahammar. We called
it "Patchwork and Quilt - Not only on beds" and we were five quilters
who showed some of our work. Click on the picture above to see most of the
quilts
The quilt below is my first project done with Janome MC10000 and
Digitizer 10000.
I got the idea for the design in the middle from a paper piecing pattern on Jinny
Beyer's home page. I had the intention to make a whole wallhanging with
those embroideries, but due to lack of time I had to settle for one block. But I still have plans for the other
one... and to use the design with bright autumn colors (which is really the kind
of colors I like the best)
The designs for this quilt can be downloaded from Janome's home page and the instructions for the quilt is featured in Janome Digest #15

This is the quilt... front and back
The quilting designs in the corner blocks only took 3 minutes each to embroider...

Here are some details... The design to the left was embroidered first, then I freehand quilted (stippled?) it on my machine.... and the one to the right only took 3 minutes to embroider and is actually made out of only two curves that have been duplicated, flipped and rotated...
In November 2001 we had a Quilting retreat with Christmas
as a theme. 30 ladies came from all over Sweden to cuddle with their
sewing machines for a whole weekend.
Take a look at the pictures! There are 4
pages with pictures!
Take a look in my "Gallery" for inspiration... or my customers' Gallery which is growing
If you want to see a project I have in mind for my MC10000, take a look here, it's only in Swedish, but you can look at the pictures... :-)
Mia's Quiltbod (a "bod" is a tiny barn or something like that) was opened in Oktober -97 and those who have been here know that it more looks like a big sewing area than a shop... but most of my sewing customers say they feel at home with all the fabric pieces lying here and there... :-)

lady? Click on the picture
Due to lack of time, this English page is not that well looked after... Having a Quilt Shop to run, two little boys and a husband who's working a lot... well time runs too fast.
The "Quilt to be" above is still
under construction... I was planning to heve it ready by the beginning of March
last year,
when my husband and I attended the "Sewing Festival" outside
Stockholm... but as I knew... March came quicker than I expected... so I'll have
to have it ready for this year instead...
If you click on the picture you'll see it in more detail. I'm not finished
playing with the colors yet, and our printer is running out of colors, so
everything I print come out as blue, purple, pink and white...
I made the pattern using Quilt Pro, but There's also a great book called Log
Cabin With a Twist, that I can recommend with all my heart!

Here's a misstake I made...
At a beginners class I was supposed to show how to make log cabins, so I started
with one light and one dark strip, ironed, cut and sewed the second strip on.
But, instead of taking a dark strip I took a light, which made the seams on the
back go the wrong way!!! I could have overseen that, but... naaah... I would
only see that wrong pressing... So... this did not become log cabins...
Instead, I took those beginnings of the blocks and put them together and made
another design... and it turned out quite OK, don't you think?
Do you want to see some of my fabrics?
Last summer I had an exhibition with quilts and machine
embroideries. I have some of them below (forgive me for the poor quality of the
photos... I'll fix them any day...or year...) There are some more photos here
(that page is in Swedish though)

This is what I had in mind when I designed the flying geese you can download from my freebies page... It turned out quite nice, don't you think?

Detail of the quilting... free motion between the designs, to hide the seams and because it was the easiest thing to do... Plus, tree rows of straight stiches around the border...
Alexander (our youngest boy, now almost 6 years old) under my first quilt, made for his big brother Sebastian

The sleaping beauty... a few years later... :-) and a better camera!
My name is Mia, I'm 36 years old and when I expected my first son (-93) I stumbled over a quilting book and decided to make a crib quilt. I managed, with some difficulty, to get 12 log cabin blocks together (it's still in use as you can see in the photo above, which was taken a couple of years ago) and liked it so much I decided I wanted one just like that for our bed. So my second project was a full size bed cover. When I finally got the top finished I went to the nearest city to buy batting and backing. There I came across my first issues of Quilters Newsletter Magazine and a whole new world opened up before my eyes...
In August -96 I heard of a local quilt qroup that had been started, so I joined them and realized I wasn't alone!!! It was really inspireing and after the Nordic Quilt Meeting in Stockholm in May -97 there was no turning back!!! There I was approached by the Swedish Janome dealer and one thing lead to another... and in October the same year I opened up the shop. I have quilt classes, both beginners and others and we have lots of fun!!!
Please feel free to vistit the rest of my pages, even though they are not in English yet, and do drop me a line... I love to share ideas and inspiration!!!

Is this a miniature or what??? You'll find the pattern HERE
